3 Terrible SEO Mistakes to Avoid

Those just starting out in the world of internet marketing and blogging may find it difficult to keep up with the latest trends in SEO, article marketing, and social networking. The truth, however, is that despite your best efforts you may be making some critical mistakes when it comes to search engine optimization and your website. Here are 3 things to keep in mind as you work to develop your website. 1. Using Duplicate Content It may be tempting to cut and paste content from another site or to simply publish some unedited PLR but duplicate content is not the stuff good websites are made of. Make sure you are using original content on the pages of your website. If you do purchase it in the form of PLR, make sure you’re editing it enough to be considered unique. Use relevant keywords in both the title and throughout the post and make sure everything looks natural. Duplicate content isn’t Google’s favorite and your work may not get indexed at all – making it a complete waste of your time. 2. Ignoring Dead Links Google loves seeing pages with links to both inbound and outbound pages. The problem is that people tend to publish links on their pages and forget about them, never going back to make sure all of the links they placed within their site’s pages are still active. Dead or broken links are bad for SEO. It’s like spilling a carton of milk on your kitchen counter and leaving it there to sour. Google hates a mess, so you’ll want to go back and clean up or remove dead or broken links as often as possible. 3. Keyword Stuffing Let’s say you have a handful of great keywords. You need to write great content for your website pages and you need to utilize those keywords within the text. What you need to NOT do is stuff those keywords into the text in an unnatural manner. The more you use the keywords, the worse your SEO. Keyword stuffing looks unnatural, will irritate your readers, and will show Google you have not spent any time creating quality content. Focus more on creating high-quality content and then go back and lace your keywords into the opening, body, and closing paragraphs once or twice. That’s really all you need to do to keep the search engines happy. Search engine optimization is critical to the success of your site’s development but if you over-do the process you’ll end up in trouble with the search engines. Take your time and carefully develop your content. The search engine results you desire are just a few clicks away.
