Vi är sju personer, televisionå män och fem kvinnor, som har träffats regelbundet i flera år för att skriva om "våra psykiatriska liv”. Vi är alla 60+, dvs nyligen pensionerade eller närmar oss pensionen.
Vi har i våra berättelser velat förena ett helt personligt perspektiv, vad som layout en som individual och vad som kunnat ligga bakom valet av psykiatri som specialitet - med en beskrivning av professionella erfarenheter, utvecklingen inom psykiatrin samt vilka slutsatser vi dragit av våra erfarenheter. Vi har arbetat i många delar av Sverige, och med många olika former av psykiatri, och har således en både bred och djup erfarenhet. Alla har också valt att på olika sätt och i olika utsträckning vidareutbilda sig inom psykoterapi. Vi har alla until sist valt att lämna den offentliga psykiatrin för att arbeta privat, och beskriver också orsakerna until detta, och vad det inneburit för utvecklingen av vårt arbete. Förhållandet mellan biologi och psykologi, humanistisk resp. mer naturvetenskaplig människosyn, har vi naturligtvis alla brottats med less than hela vårt yrkesliv, och det försöker vi också beskriva i våra texter.
Två författare har skrivit kommenterande texter i boken. Björn Wrangsjö, själv psykiater och psykoterapeut, med stor erfarenhet både av svensk psykiatri och av olika terapiformer och Per-Magnus Johansson, docent i idé- och lärdomshistoria i Göteborg, och psykoanalytiker.
